Hello lovelies!

So, my name is Alison (as I said before in my fancy-pants mod introductory post), I'm twenty - twenty one in like 40 days! - and I'm a senior at the University of Michigan. I'm currently diagnosed/meeting criteria for BN, and have past co-diagnoses of AN(II) and BN, as well as a second diagnosis of dysthymia.

I grew up in a working-class suburb outside of Chicago and first got into punk the way I'm sure a lot of the members of this community did, which was via highly accessible, local pop-punk bands when I was in middle school. In high school I was really fanatical about a whole host of Epitaph/Hellcat bands, especially the Distillers, Rancid, Nofx, and Bad Religion. I also had a huge (albeit brief) obsession with Anti-Flag, as well as a lot of '77 music. I think that phase lasted probably almost through high school, at which point I started getting more into skate punk bands like Rise Against and Propagandhi, which I was into for a while after that.

Now I listen to a wider variety of music, and to be perfectly honest, a lot of it isn't "punk" in a traditional sense... but I feel that the ideology and intent behind, for instance, a Bob Dylan song, evidences clearly a great degree of punk ethos. I'm currently into a lot of riot grrl stuff, as well as fun dancing music like Girl Talk and Ladytron. I get referred to as being scene more often than perhaps I'm comfortable with, and now that I stop and think about it, I suppose myself and all my closest friends are what could be termed hipsters. But whatever, I feel like right now I'm the closest I've ever been to the person I like myself best as, and I'm not going to apologize for drinking a Red Stripe or liking Ryan Adams, haha.

I live in a co-op in Ann Arbor and am really into eating local/organic, and am (big surprise!) a vegan animal rights activist. I'm a feminist, an atheist, and generally identify as an anarchist (IMHO, there's nothing more ridiculous than people who really believe change will be effected via our two-party system). I'm taking the LSAT in December because I'm crazy smart and can easily get into law school, but my real passion lies in nonprofit work (I've worked with state PIRGs and environmental advocacy groups in the past) and am considering deferring on law school to log a few years of work with the Peace Corps. We'll see...

Anyhow, here's me:

If anyone wants to friend me, I'm always open to meeting new people.

Also, I may be the last person on the planet to not have a Myspace. I flat-out refuse to buy into the concept/I live in a cave.
